CREATING MY BOOKS
In most Duck books it’s usually Duck who has the upper hand (wing?) but here clever little Frog runs the show. He is one step ahead of Duck (and so is the reader because they can open the flap and find Frog themselves). Perhaps Frog’s cheeky game is revenge for all the times Duck has got Frog and the others into those awful messes!
Making Lift-the-Flap Books
Unlike novelty books with fiddly wheels and pop ups to engineer - lift the flap books are easy to mock up; all you need is some sellotape to stick on a piece of paper to play the part of what will eventually be the cardboard flap. (You can see this along the hinge edge of the postbox in my early thumbnail above). The nice thing about these books is not only does the flap give you the reveal of the character (in this case Frog) but also what the character says. It’s like getting two spreads on one!
