My Music
40 Years
(2018)

Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes etc

This song was inspired by a meeting in 2018 with one of my first girlfriends who, as you may have guessed from the title, I had not seen for a very long time. It was an emotional reunion and nature conspired to provide us with an appropriately dramatic backdrop.  It was the hottest day of the year; it hadn’t rained for months but a ferocious storm changed all that. As if that wasn’t enough there was also a lunar eclipse that day.

Here are the lyrics:

Forty years - is a mighty long time,
Since I was yours and you were mine.
Not built to last, derailed so fast,
The cards were dealed.

Forty years - a broken heart,
Young lovers ripped apart.
Something died, the paths divide,
Our fate was sealed.

Forty years - since I saw your face.
Reunited, by mysterious grace.
Our stories told, a hand to hold,
A wound revealed.

Forty years, they passed so soon,
Shadow of the earth eclipsed the light of the moon.
An ancient pain, washed away by the rain:
Something got healed,
Something got healed,
Something got healed.
