Train Take me Home

I came up with a strumming pattern which sounded like a train rhythm and that gave me a lead into the subject of the song. The refrain ‘Train take me home’ appeared and fitted well with the repeated chords at the end of each verse.

If you read between the lines of the lyrics, a story unfolds of a guy returning to his ‘sweet Marie’. There was obviously an acrimonious parting; we never find out what happened and we don’t need to. Not knowing the details of the story often makes a song more interesting: The listener has the space to fill in the gaps.

I hope you enjoy my song; here are the lyrics:

I’m staring out the window, at the town we left behind.
I’m staring out the window, at the town we left behind.
Wind is blowing in my hair - Marie is on my mind.

They say it’s good to travel, they say it’s good to roam.
They say it’s good to travel, they say it’s good to roam.
But I’ve seen too much of elsewhere,
Train take me home

She never tried to stop me, though she wanted me to stay.
She never tried to stop me, though she wanted me to stay.
I was hurting and confused when I left that lonesome day.

Wheels rattling on the rails, play a rhythm in my head.
Wheels rattling on the rails, play a rhythm in my head.
The faster that they roll, sooner we’ll be laying in my bed.

My sweet Marie is waiting for me, I left her all alone.
My sweet Marie is waiting for me, I left her all alone.
I’ve had enough of travelling,
Train take me home.

Train take me home. Train take me home. Train take me home.
