About the Pictures
Unlike many of my other books these illustrations have no drawn line in them - the lines which appear to be there are simply made by the edge of a block of colour. Painting in this way gives a more naturalistic feel to the subject, as compared to the line drawings in the Duck books - which is a more stylised representation of reality.

The paint is gauche, which I like to use because of the wonderful textures you can create with it. If you look at this picture you can see that everything in it has a different texture. I particularly like doing the texture of Sid’s coat - which is made by using the paint very dry and ‘scrabbling’ it on with the brush.
