I recently finished the layouts for Hugo the Hare's Rainy Day, the third book in my Nat the Cat series. This stage involves creating endless variations of page layouts until I find the one which feels right. There's lots or ripping, scribbling and pasting of sketches and cut out blocks of text; it's quite exciting to see the finished layout of the book gradually emerging. Here's how my desk looked near the end of the process. (The bin underneath the table, by the way, is full of rejected designs). The next step will be to work on the drawings.
